Dublin’s Radio Nova has launched 12 extra online radio stations with genres ranging from Metal and Rock to Chill Out music.
The station, which claims to be the first Irish radio station to offer such a big range of services, are hope to add an extra revenue stream and make people aware of the main Nova service.
The new digital channels are Nova 80s, Nova Beatles, Nova Brit Pop, Nova British Invasion, Nova Chill, Nova Classics, Nova Irish Rock, Electronic 80s, Millertime from Marty Miller, Nova Metal.
The new channels are available to the 170,000 users of the station’s iPhone and Android mobile apps as well as via the station’s website and on internet radio devices.
The station’s CEO, Kevin Branigan told RadioToday: “This represents the first time that radio and digital technologies have been brought together in an environment where there is a real, captive audience.
Over 170,000 people have downloaded our mobile apps and this is where the real benefits of these new digital channels will be seen – they’re accessible at a click, focus exclusively on music and cost absolutely nothing for the user to listen to”, he said.
Branigan says channels have been on test for the past number of weeks and recorded over 20,000 listening sessions in their first two weeks.
The station’s Programme Director, Jeff O’ Brien, said, “The new digital channels represent an innovative way for us to provide content for our listeners. Our research shows us what our listeners want and our use of technology in this way is the perfect way to offer that bit more. The level of interest from listeners to date is very encouraging.
Radio Nova broadcasts to Dublin city, county and commuter belt, including parts of Wicklow, Kildare and Meath, on 100.3, 100.5 and 95.7 FM. It employs a team of 35 at its base in the Dublin docklands.
