Communicorp is to extend its licensing deal with UK stations Heart, Capital and Smooth by bringing the brands to Ireland.
From next month, SPIN 1038 will be known as Capital, 98FM will become Heart Dublin and Today FM will rebrand as Smooth Radio. Online only station FRQ will become Capital XTRA. RadioToday understands an announcement will be made to staff later this morning.
It brings the UK national brands to Ireland for the first time, and allows Communicorp to use marketing already created for its new stations in England, Wales and Scotland.
It’s also understood that Newstalk will become LBC but details of this rebrand remain sketchy.
Communicorp fully owns eight UK stations but has licensed the brand names from Global Radio in a unique ten year agreement.
