Radio Kerry has walked away with awards in half of the categories they were nominated in, collecting six awards in total.
The awards, which were presented at a Gala Event in the Lyrath Estate, Kilkenny last Friday night, were covered live by @RadioTodayIE on Twitter and on Facebook.
Gold – Specialist Music Programme – The Global Village (JJ O Shea)
Silver – News Reporter of the Year – Alison Nulty
Silver – Current Affairs Programme – Kerry Today (Jerry O Sullivan and Treasa Murphy)
Bronze – Short Feature – Fairytales of the Kingdom – John Herlihy and the 2013 FAS Broadcast Media students
Bronze – Drama – End of the Line by Daithi Mc Mahon and Fred O Connor
Bronze – Music Special – The Bamako Beat (JJ O Shea)
Speaking about the awards Radio Kerry General Manager Fiona Stack said she was delighted that the station had been recognized in so many of the nominated categories. She praised the ongoing work and commitment of the on-air team to creating excellent programming which is worthy of both nomination and reward. Ms Stack gave special mention to JJ O Shea who won Gold in the Specialist Music Category for The Global Village.
These latest awards bring to 42 the number of PPI Radio Awards won by Radio Kerry in the past eight years including 12 gold, 11 silver and 18 bronze awards. The station has received 73 nominations in that time, has received the top award, Local Radio Station of the Year, on three occasions in 2005, 2007 and 2010 and in 2012 Radio Kerry General Manager Fiona Stack became the first woman in Independent Radio to receive the Award for “Outstanding Achievement in Irish Radio” at the annual Awards Dinner.
