Near FM presenter wins top EU prize for Italian show

Maurizio Pittau, Founder and Producer of Radio Dublino – a weekly Italian radio magazine on North Dublin’s Near FM Radio – is being awarded “Language Ambassador of the Year 2015” by the EU.

The Language Ambassador of the Year award, which is managed in Ireland by the EU agency Leargas, recognises outstanding work and initiatives by individuals in the promotion of language learning. It is part of the European Language Label, which is a European Commission initiative, and aims to recognise the achievements of those individuals involved in the teaching and promotion of languages in any sector.

The award was assigned with the motivation: “Maurizio Pittau, producing the radio programme Radio Dublino, inspires and motivates others to learn Italian language with a big impact on language learning in his community”.

Maurizio, who was born and raised in Sardinia, Italy, holds a degree in Economics from the Università di Cagliari (Italy) and a Master in Marketing and International Business from the MIP – School of Management, Politecnico in Milan. His show, Radio Dublino – the first and only radio programme in Italian in Ireland, is a weekly Italian radio magazine broadcast every Wednesday from 9.30 to 10.30pm on Near FM, a community radio who manage their programmes autonomously and independently.

The award will be presented during the European Language Label awards ceremony on Friday 25th September at Farmleigh in Phoenix Park, Dublin, during which a video clip which was recorded during the Radio Dublino show in Near FM studios on Wednesday August 19th will be shown.
