Melody Radio Country to apply for radio licence

A new online station playing country music is planning to apply for a future possible licence from the BAI.

Former Kfm and Spirit Radio presenter David Baker is running the station, in addition to Melody Radio Ireland which plays love songs and easy listening music.

David told RadioToday: “Irish radio is very predictable with many stations sounding the same but I believe these two stations offer something really different and now it’s time for the BAI to give listeners some kind of choice, everyone loves country music and when you look at the likes of Garth Brooks and our own homegrown talents like Nathan Carter and Mike Denver and a catalogue of greats there is a serious need for a country music station.

“I’ve started it online and will go through the process to take it onto FM but with online presence and listening growing which is clear to see it can really grow this way too. My father always told me to get on in this world you need to give people something different and unique and that’s why over the years I’ve always kept identities with all of my stations.

“I plan to bring the station out and about in a series of roadshows across the country and we have already brought in top presenters to do some shows and will continue to bring more in as time goes on.”

The station is streaming at melodyradiocountry.com.

The BAI is currently exploring opportunities for future radio stations on FM across Ireland.
