Tony Fenton to return to Today FM in February

Radio presenter Tony Fenton will return to Today FM within the next month following his ongoing battle with cancer.

Tony has been absent from his 2.30 – 4.30pm slot for the past 10 months and says he “cannot wait” to get back on air, telling newspaper the Herald “that will be in four weeks’ time”.

He added: “I’m chomping at the bit, I really cannot wait. It’ll be just me again, back on as normal. Louise Duffy will be going to 7pm in the evening”.

Meanwhile, Classic Hits 4FM afternoon star Gareth O’Callaghan, who used to work alongside Tony Fenton in his 2FM days, looked forward to the veteran presenter’s return, posting on Facebook: “Got some great news today. My old mate Tony Fenton will be back behind the radio mic in four weeks time!! Tony has been battling illness for a long time now, but he’s chompin’ at the bit to get back as you can imagine. He is one of my all-time fave DJs and a great friend from the auld days, one of the best and one of the most decent in the business. It will be great to have you back where you belong Tony!”

Fenton himself welcomed Today FM’s decision to appoint Anton Savage as Ray D’Arcy’s replacement, saying: “When Ray announced he was leaving I just thought that it would be a good opportunity for us; I thought, ‘Let’s put somebody great in there,’ and Anton is certainly the man.”

He added: “Ray usually came on with the paper review and brought everyone down with that, so Anton will not be doing that. I’m looking forward to seeing it shaken up!”
