TXFM goes all female all day for Women’s Day

It’s only girls-allowed in the music at TXFM today as the station celebrates International Women’s Day.

The station posts: “To mark International Women’s Day we are playing nothing but female artists and bands on TXFM today. So what better reason to remind you of the top class playlist we compiled here last May? All the great and knowledgeable listeners to TXFM Drive put forward suggestions for The Female Voice: a 60-track tribute to female singers and recording artists. There is almost four hours of captivating music on this playlist. Naturally enough there are big names such as Joni Mitchell, Tori Amos, Kate Bush, Nina Simone, Doris Day, and Aretha Franklin.

“There are also some lesser-known gems too. Roberta Flack’s rendition of The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face is included, and it will stop you in your tracks. Crayon Angels by the underrated Judee Sill was put forward too. Eva Cassidy’s haunting Aint No Sunshine is on the playlist. There are songs from The Sugacubes, The Sundays, Beth Orton, Wallis Bird, Lisa Hannigan, Sade, Amy Winehouse, Ani Difranco, and many more. One of the most powerful tracks is Stay With Me Till Dawn by Judie Tzuke.”

The playlist has been posted on the station’s website.
