Tributes paid to Today FM commentator Tom Tyrrell

Tom Tyrrell, a former commentator on Premier League Live at Today FM, has died.

The voice of Manchester United joined Today FM after three decades commentating on the football club for Piccadilly Radio in England.

John Duggan has announced he will pay tribute to Tom on-air this Saturday afternoon. He tweeted: “I enjoyed working with Tom Tyrrell for many years. We will pay tribute to him on Saturday before his beloved Man United play Stoke. #RIP”

RTE Sports Reporter Dave Kelly added: “Very sad to hear this news John, It was always a great privilege to work with Tom.”

More tributes have been paid on social media after the sad news was announced on Thursday evening by Stuart Pyke. He said: “So sad to report that Tom Tyrrell has passed away – friend + the voice of Manchester United over three decades at Piccadilly Radio. Top man.”

The BBC’s Dan Walker: “‪It was a great pleasure & an education to work alongside Tom Tyrrell at Piccadilly Radio. Very sad to hear he has passed away. Thoughts with his family. He was admired by many.”

Tom Ross from talkSPORT: “So Sad to hear that former Radio Picadilly Sports Editor & voice of Man U Tom Tyrrell has passed away. He helped me a lot in the early days #RIP”
