Today FM’s first Power Hour campaign has raised €500,000 for the Jack and Jill Children’s Foundation, enough to fund 25,000 hours of care.\
The three-week campaign encouraged listeners, schools, businesses, sports clubs and community groups across Ireland to raise money through their own activities, with every €20 donated providing one hour of in-home nursing care and respite support for families.
The campaign concluded on Friday 25th September with a day of special programming across Today FM, featuring challenges, competitions and fundraising activities involving the station’s presenters and listeners.
Ian Dempsey attempted a Hole-in-One Challenge, Dave Moore hosted a School Disco, Louise Cantillon took on the Crossbar Challenge and Ray Foley presented a Power Ballad Hour. Matt Cooper also offered listeners the opportunity to win a training session with rugby player Jamison Gibson-Park.
Nathan Murphy, Today FM Managing Editor, said: “Raising €500,000 for The Jack and Jill Children’s Foundation is a remarkable result, and it belongs to our listeners, whose generosity never fails to amaze us.”
The campaign has also helped raise awareness of the charity’s services, resulting in new referrals from families who discovered they might be eligible for support. Community nurses have also expressed an interest in providing care in family homes.
Deirdre Walsh, CEO of the Jack and Jill Children’s Foundation, said: “New families have found our service and reached out for support, nurses have contacted us wanting to provide care hours, and families past and present have reconnected and shared their stories.”
