Former Cork radio boss Kieran McGeary has started a new role as chief executive of Kerry’s Eye newspaper.
Kieran takes up the position today, Monday 24th August, following almost 20 years at the helm of Cork’s 96FM and C103.
He was Group Station Director for the two services before leaving Onic in June as part of a restructure at the radio group.
Before his time in Cork, Kieran was chief executive of regional youth music station Beat 102 103, which he launched in 2003.
A journalist by background, he previously worked in BBC local radio in the UK before becoming Programme Director at Radio Mercury in Crawley. He later served as Managing Director of 107.7 The Wolf in Wolverhampton before returning to Ireland.
Speaking about his move away from broadcasting, Kieran said: “Obviously I will miss radio which is in my blood. However, I am excited about the new challenge of operating in a different but related sector. I have been impressed by the ambitions of the owners of the paper.”
He replaces Padraig Kennelly at Kerry’s Eye following the sale of the newspaper by the Kennelly family earlier this year.
The paper was acquired by Webprint, owned by Donagh and Jennifer O’Doherty.
