Niall and Karen Boylan launch couples podcast

Niall Boylan has moved away from current affairs for a new weekly podcast alongside his wife Karen.

Don’t Call Me Darling with Niall and Karen Boylan focuses on relationships, marriage, family life and the everyday subjects which can divide couples.

The programme began after Karen unexpectedly joined Niall’s weekly news round up when his regular co host AJ Walsh was unavailable.

Karen, who had not previously appeared on air, offered to fill the vacant place and the response prompted the couple to consider recording their conversations without the news.

The first three episodes were recorded without retakes or edits and cover separate finances, phone passwords, friendships with former partners, adult children leaving home, household chores and separate bedrooms.

Karen has previously worked behind the scenes as producer and content director for Niall’s radio show and daily podcast. Don’t Call Me Darling gives her a regular role at the microphone alongside him.

The programme’s name came from a warning Niall gave Karen before her first appearance on his current affairs programme.

“Whatever you do, don’t call me darling,” he told her.

Niall said: “After nearly ten years together, you’d think we would have run out of things to talk about. Apparently we’ve only just started. Karen has always been the woman behind everything I do, and now listeners are finally getting to know the person I’ve known all these years.”

The couple have been together for almost ten years and married for nearly four.

Don’t Call Me Darling is released every Friday on Spotify, with plans being considered to increase production to two episodes each week.
