It is becoming increasingly unlikely that Southern Cross Austereo’s Michael Christian and Mel Greig will face charges over the prank call to the London hospital.
Scotland Yard have not contacted New South Wales Police requesting further information, or to interview them. NSW Deputy Police Commissioner Nick Kaldas has told News Limited: “There was some initial contact after the death of (nurse) Jacintha Saldanha but not a lot since and because of the passage of time we believe it is unlikely any charges will be laid.”
It has been revealed that Jacintha Saldanha, the nurse who died following the call, had a history of depression and had reportedly attempted suicide on two prior occasions. Following the most recent unsuccessful attempt, she had completed a nine-month course of anti-depressants.
Christian and Greig remain in hiding with their career in limbo. Whilst SCA have confirmed that the Hot 30 will not return, they have not revealed what will happen with the two presenters. It seems likely they will be placed on garden leave for an extended period of time.
Fortunately for SCA, a few months ago they signed the former Nova Adelaide Breakfast show, ‘Maz and Dan’, however had not publicly announced a show for the two.
It is believed that the pair were planned to host a new show from 6pm, with the Hot 30 to follow, although it is possible they may now fill the unforeseen evening vacancy.
