The IBI is to tell politicians at an event taking place in Leinster House today that it has lost patience with the failure of the Government to address issues facing Irish broadcasting.
“In an environment where unregulated mega-media corporations like Facebook and Google are doing what they like, making billions from highly questionable practices and turning a blind eye as their platforms are undermining democracy, Government inaction and failure to deliver on its promises or act on cross-party recommendations for change is inexcusable,” said IBI Chairman John Purcell.
The IBI says that the Government continues to fail to act on promises it made over three years ago while lack of action on other vital reforms including how independent broadcasting, journalism and public service programming are funded and sustained, risks damaging long term impacts on independent radio, which is listened to by 2.6 million people in Ireland every day.
The IBI says that its members have lost patience and will be robustly making their point to politicians today.
