It’s a great day for the radio industry

It doesn’t matter who gets the best reviews. It doesn’t matter who wins in the ratings. Because today is a great day for radio.
The amount of media coverage given to our small radio industry today is priceless. Television, newspapers and online all reporting on Sean O’Rourke and Pat Kenny‘s new radio programmes will result in lots more people tuning into radio today.

Some people will come from other stations, some will be returning to radio, and some will become regular listeners again.

This is all great news for radio as we’ll see many more ‘bums on seats’ maybe not in the next JNLR book but certainly within the next 12 months.

Hats off to Newstalk for having the balls to pinch one of RTÉ’s biggest players – and even more so for blatantly telling listeners to “move that dial” from Radio 1 to Newstalk.

And good on RTÉ for hitting back with a new strong autumn line-up.

If you’re in the studio or can’t listen to either show, you can keep up-to-date with how the two ‘newbies’ at their respective stations are getting on via the Irish Times liveblog.

Let the battle commence!
