You’ve got less than 32 hours to get your entry in for the I Love Radio Awards 2013, so we caught up with Managing Director Des Doris to find out more.
Tell us about the Awards and why they made a comeback, albeit under a new name?
Radio advertising is perhaps the most versatile of the commercial creative media. There has been an awards ceremony to give an ear to creative excellence in Irish Radio Advertising since the 1990s.
The awards did not take place in 2011 and on that basis Alchemy and Irish Marketing Journal decided to revive them.
So with the help of our brilliant sponsors RTE Radio Sales, IRS, UTV Radio Solutions and 4FM the Love Radio Awards was born in 2012.
We were amazed by the response in year one with 372 entries and over 300 people attending the ceremony itself. So naturally we are back again in 2013, ant the awards are taking place on Friday November 15th in the newly refurbished Ballsbridge Hotel (formerly Jurys).
Who can enter?
Anyone who has produced a radio spot or promotion that has aired on commercial radio in the Republic of Ireland where the activity commenced between September 30th 2012 and October 14th 2013. You can be a Radio Station, an Ad Agency, a production house, a client or anyone who has produced commercial radio as above.
So the closing date is tomorrow.. what should people be doing today to get their last minute entries in?
Entry is really easy. For most categories all that is required is
- The Ad itself
- A (very short) application form
- The appropriate fee
You can enter online at loveradioawards.ie or download the entry forms and put it all on a memory stick and send it to

Who’s making up the judging panel and how did they get chosen?
Our judging chairman is a UK radio legend, Ian MacTavish, CEO of Radioville, the UKs leading specialist radio production house. The rest of the judges are a mix of Radio creatives and producers, agency creatives, a couple of clients, and a couple of media planners. We have struck a balance between the Agency world and the Radio world.
What happens on the night of November 15th?
The winners are announced! It’s a great night at the newly refurbished Ballsbridge Hotel (formerly Jurys) on Friday November 15th. It’s black tie and tickets are on sale now.
We have really reduced the prices to a recession busting €950 for a table of 10 or €99 for individual tickets (+ VAT). Booking details are at loveradioawards.ie/the-big-night.
