Sunshine and Highland face rival applications

Applications have been received by the BAI to take over the sound broadcasting contracts currently operated by Dublin’s Sunshine 106.8 and North Donegal’s Highland Radio.

BAI has received six applications in total for three local commercial radio services, with no rival bids for Midlands 103 in Counties Laois, Offaly and Westmeath.

Details of the bidders hoping to set up new stations have not been announced, and the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland is currently checking to see if the applications are valid.

We’ll find out in mid-October who has officially applied – two for Highland and three for Sunshine. Back in March, expressions of interest were made for Highland Radio by Patrick Simpson, and for Sunshine by Easy FM – Ireland’s Country Music Station.

Highland Radio operates a  local broad-format whilst Sunshine 106.8 operates under a niche music-driven sound broadcasting service contract.
