Midwest Radio wants Ocean FM’s Contract

Competition for the Sligo/North Leitrim/South Donegal BAI contract, currently held by Ocean FM, comes from NW Coast FM Ltd.

Coast FM is wholly owned by Midwest Radio, which has been on-air (legally) for 25 years in neighbouring County Mayo. It is fronted by Chairman and Director Michael Hughes.

The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland has announced details of an oral presentation to decide the eventual winner of the licence, taking place on Monday 28th April in the Clarion Hotel Sligo. It will commence at 10am and is open to attendance by members of the public.

The purpose of the oral presentations is to provide each applicant with the opportunity to make a presentation to the Contract Awards Committee, based on the application submitted and to answer any questions or clarifications that the Committee may have in relation to the application. The time allocated for each applicant is one hour, consisting of a 15-minute presentation, followed by a question and answer session of approximately 30 minutes. The Q&A session will be led by the Chairperson of the Contract Awards Committee.

Following completion of the oral presentation process, the Contract Awards Committee will then assess and score both applications received. Once assessment and scoring is completed, a recommendation will be made to the Authority of the BAI. It is expected that a recommendation will issue to the Authority in the coming months.

Copies of the applications received for the Sligo/North Leitrim/South Donegal franchise area are available to view on the BAI website here.
