The Gradam Glór na nGael prize 2012 has been won by RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta, as announced live on-air at the station Friday.
The annual prize recognises outstanding work by organisations and individuals to promote the Irish language.
Clare FM has also been recognised, joining previous recipients of the prize such as Shannonside, The Irish Language Commissioner, and newspaper Lá.
Lorcán Mac Gabhann, Head of Glór na nGael told RTE ten that RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta had done just that over the last 40 years:
“This is valuable recognition of the work of RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta over the past 40 years to provide a platform for the Irish language, the Gaeltacht and Irish language communities,” declared Edel Ní Chuireáin, Ceannaire, RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta.
The overall winner will take home the top prize of €40,000 at a ceremony in Clontarf Castle in Dublin in April.
