Gay Byrne recovering well after heart attack

RTÉ lyric fm presenter Gay Byrne has suffered a heart attack yesterday (Monday) but is recovering well in hospital.

RTÉ tells RadioToday.ie all his friends and colleagues across the organisation are thinking of him and wish him all the best with his recovery.

Broadcasting veteran Gaybo was the first host of The Late Late Show over a 37-year period spanning 1962 until 1999, and has most recently been host of Sunday with Gay Byrne on lyric fm, playing traditional jazz, Big Band and swing music.

The 81 year old started his career on the radio, with a 15-minute slot on Monday nights which he used to play Jazz on Radio Éireann. His first broadcast for the station was in 1958.

The Byrne family have asked for privacy at this time.
