A temporary FM radio service is broadcasting across large parts of Leinster, bringing presenter-led music radio back to the band.
Lazer Hits began a 30-day licensed run on 28 December, broadcasting from a purpose-built digital studio in Bluebell, Dublin, and is due to remain on air until 27 January.
The service can be heard across Dublin, Bray, Wicklow, North Kildare and Meath, alongside continued availability on DAB+, smart speakers, apps and online.
Listeners tuning in were welcomed by Wicklow broadcaster John Power, who set out the station’s approach with the promise of “maximum music and absolutely no BS”.
The schedule is built around a high-energy playlist spanning the sixties through to the nineties, combined with a commitment that audiences are never more than one minute away from the next song.
The presenter line-up draws heavily on established radio names, including former Radio Nova and RTÉ 2FM voices, alongside broadcasters with experience from stations in Ireland, the UK and the United States.
Station manager Joe King says the aim is to restore personality-led radio at a time when much output is automated, with presenters bringing decades of on-air experience to the format.
Although the FM transmission is time-limited, Lazer Hits plans to continue permanently on DAB+ as part of the FáilteDAB trial, positioning itself for in-car and digital listening as FM transmitters are switched off later this month.
The DAB+ trial is also expected to expand across the country, offering even more reach.
King says the station is not positioned as an oldies service, describing the music as “the soundtrack to people’s lives”, delivered using modern digital broadcast standards.
