Radio 1 leads New York Festivals finalists

RTÉ Radio 1 has been nominated for 11 Awards in the 2013 New York Festivals, with Today FM not far behind with seven nominations.

Other stations recognised also include RTÉ lyric fm with three nominations and Classic Hits 4FM has two. The only Irish radio station in the Best Radio Station category is Flirt FM 101.3 – Galway’s Student radio station.

Radio 1’s nominations range from religious programmes to best drama, best director and best writing.

Today FM and lyric fm will fight for the Gold in various categories including Health/Medical programme, Best Live Sound and Social Issues.

98FM gets a single nomination for Dermot & Dave in the Best Regularly Scheduled Comedy Programme category – directly up against The Disappeared by John A. Connolly on Radio 1.

And the Talk Show category sees Ray D’Arcy up against Niall Boylan.

NYF Radio Awards Grand Jury member Stefan Frech, host NDR2 & hr3, Germany said, “We had wonderful entries from all over the world. What is fascinating is that more and more radiomaniacs concentrate on very difficult and serious topics. They represent not only outstanding radio crafts but also braveness and great journalism. Obviously radio is not only games’n gags!”

The full list can be found online at newyorkfestivals.com and the winners will be announced in New York on June 17th.
