Tom McGuire takes control of RTÉ Radio 1

Radio 1 Current Affairs Editor Tom McGuire has been appointed as interim Head of the station, taking over from Jim Jennings.

Jim has moved to the position of Acting Managing Director of RTÉ Radio after Clare Duignan decided not to renew her contract.

Tom told the Westmeath Independent today: “It is a great honour to have been asked to step up to the role of Head of RTÉ Radio 1 on an interim basis.

“I look forward to working with my colleagues in continuing to provide top quality programmes on the country’s premier radio station. This summer the very best of current affairs, news, sport, music, arts, documentaries, drama and comedy will be on offer across all RTÉ Radio 1 platforms.

“From a personal point of view I am delighted to continue the Athlone connection with national radio that has been there since the establishment of the transmitter at Moydrum. I know that RTÉ Radio 1 will continue to reflect and echo the successes and concerns of communities across the country in towns, cites and in rural Ireland.”
