Pat Kenny has helped unveil his new daily Newstalk 10am – 12:30pm show sponsor – gas and electricity supplier Energia.
It has been reported the deal may ultimately cover the cost Pat’s wages, who has signed up for a weekday show for the next five years at the Communicorp station.
Pat will start his new show, called The Pat Kenny Show, on Monday morning. He told independent.ie that “the week has been absolutely hectic. A lot of the PR activity is incredibly time consuming, but necessary”.
Newstalk is spending €1m on marketing Pat’s move from RTE where he has been on-air for the past 40 years.
Gary Ryan, Retail Director of Energia, said that the company are “delighted” to be supporting Pat’s switch to the independent station from RTE, citing it as the “perfect fit” for the company.
Energia are already radio spenders – sponsoring The Business with George Lee on RTÉ. “We have found that radio has been very successful in getting brand awareness across,” says Ryan.
