Three stations sign 10-year BAI contracts

Three more stations have today have had their new ten-year contracts signed by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland.

Shannonside FM / Northern Sound operate in the franchise areas of Longford/Roscommon/South Leitrim and Cavan/Monaghan and the new contract is effective from 1st December 2013.

Kfm Radio covers the County Kildare franchise area and its new contract will take effect from 17th January 2014.

Speaking at the contract signings, Bob Collins, Chairperson of the BAI, said: “We are delighted to sign contracts today with Kfm and Shannonside/Northern Sound.  Since its inception, the BAI has placed considerable emphasis on the role of local broadcasting in a modern democratic society.  Today’s contract signings will ensure that Kfm and Shannonside/Northern Sound will continue to play a central role in reflecting the views and tastes of listeners in their respective franchise areas, through varied and unique content. The BAI wishes both contractors renewed success in serving their audiences over the duration of the next contract period.”

The BAI was represented at the contract signings by the Chairperson, Bob Collins and Michael O’Keeffe, Chief Executive.

Kfm CEO Clem Ryan told RadioToday.ie: “The signing of a further 10 year broadcasting term is a testimony to the last decade of top class local radio provided by Kfm to county Kildare.  It is a tribute to our excellent staff and I extend deep thanks to the people of Kildare and all our advertisers for their support during the last 10 years.  We look forward to building on this over the next decade.”

Bob Collins from the BAI said of the station: “Kfm has contributed greatly to that vibrant mix in Kildare during the past decade and I am confident that they will continue to offer a unique service which is attuned to the needs of their listeners into the future.  The BAI wishes them continued success in serving their audience over the duration of the next contract period.”

Other recent signings have included for 98FM last month and for FM104, South East Radio and East Coast Radio in September.
