RTÉ and Newstalk will share the Irish broadcast rights for the new European Rugby Champions Cup tournament.
The competition – which replaces the Heineken Cup – kicks off next month.
All Champions Cup games featuring Irish clubs will be broadcast live on Irish radio. On each tournament weekend, RTÉ and Newstalk will provide commentary on either two games or one game respectively on a rotation basis and both stations will also have the option of covering action from the Challenge Cup.
Newstalk will kick off their coverage with the Leicester Tigers v Ulster Rugby Round 1 game on 18 October and the clash of Leinster Rugby and Wasps at the RDS the following day.
RTÉ Radio will begin their coverage of the European Rugby Champions Cup with full live commentary from Sale Sharks v Munster Rugby on 18 October. In Round 2 RTÉ Radio will broadcast full commentary of Ulster Rugby’s home clash with European champions RC Toulon on 25 October followed by Leinster Rugby’s away trip to Castres Oylmpique the next day.
