Radio 1’s Tubs to cover for Sir Terry Wogan

Ryan Tubridy will cover for Terry Wogan on BBC Radio 2 for the next two weeks.

Sir Terry is missing his radio programmes, but more publicly, is missing the BBC’s Children in Needs television broadcast on Friday evening due to ill health. His BBC Radio 2 colleague and former X Factor host Dermot O’Leary will cover on TV.

Ryan Tubridy: “First and foremost, I want to wish Terry the best of health, I’ve been an admirer since I was a young boy watching Wogan on the television and more recently listening to him on Radio 2.

“I will do my very best to keep his listeners entertained, or at least, occupied, for the next couple of weeks until the man himself returns”.

Ryan is a regular stand-in presenter at the UK station.

The 77-year-old semi-retired TV presenter is having a procedure on his back and his doctor has advised against presenting the show. It will be the first Children in Need he hasn’t presented since it launched in 1980.

A BBC spokesman said: “We are so sorry that Terry won’t be with us as we know how passionate he is about Children in Need. But we wish him a very speedy recovery and know he’ll be watching from home and enjoying the show.”
