John McCann to retire from Wireless Group

Former CEO of UTV Media John McCann is to retire from the Wireless Group – the company’s new name – after 23 years on the board.

Richard Huntingford will become the new Executive Chairman of the group.

Helen Kirkpatrick, senior independent director at Wireless Group, said: “He leaves the company in a very healthy state and with our fondest best wishes. I am delighted that Richard will be taking on the role of executive chairman. His deep experience of the radio industry and existing knowledge of the company’s businesses will ensure that the company continues to focus all its efforts on delivering long-term value for shareholders.”

62 year old John McCann has been CEO for 16 years and the departure follows the completion of the sale of the company’s television business to ITV..

Mr McCann joined UTV as financial controller in 1983, then became a director and general manager in 1990, before being promoted to chief executive in 1999. He will retire at the time of the AGM in May later this year.
