Radio 1 sets up tent at Killarney Festival

RTÉ Radio 1 is the official radio partner to this year’s Killarney Festival of Music & Food.

The station is promising ‘a forest full of music, comedy and entertaining talk to keep both festival-goers and Radio 1 listeners entertained’.

On Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 June from 2pm till 7pm each day, the national station will host an eponymous tent, hosting acoustic sets with some of the festival’s headline acts; the Main Stage features music from Burt Bacharach, Jools Holland, Duran Duran and Father John Misty.

Special sessions from Wallis Bird, Mongoose, The Young Folk and Mick Flannery will also feature.

And presenters Kathryn Thomas and Cathal Murray will host A Night in the Forest on Saturday, from 9p till 11pm.

Tom McGuire, Head of Radio 1: “Radio 1 is inviting festival-goers to join us to experience special moments unlike any other. Our woodland tent will feature curated events from the Woodland Céilí to a celebration of the music of Joni Mitchell and Laurel Canyon. Comedy star Oliver Callan will perform exclusively, we’ll chat to iconic American folk-rock purveyor Father John Misty of Fleet Foxes fame, and there’ll be a tribute to Burt Bacharach’s legendary songbook. Radio 1 is a constant presence around the country and we plan to make a big statement in the Kingdom this summer.”

The tent will be opened by Kathryn Thomas at 2pm on Saturday. Here’s a video they’ve made about the event coverage:
