BAI considers fast tracking Newstalk Contract

Following public notices asking for anyone to express an interest in the licence held by News 106 Ltd, the BAI is thinking about invoking the fast-track licensing procedure.

The Contract Awards Committee of the BAI only received one expression of interest, from the the current licence holder, so Newstalk will enjoy a simplified Contract renewal process.

The national Communicorp speech station confirmed its intention to reapply with a deposit of €25,000.00 just before Christmas.

The BAI said today: “No Statements of Intent have been received by the BAI from any person for the contract advertised. The Contract Awards Committee will now consider whether to formally ratify the fast-track application process for the contract at its forthcoming meeting on Thursday, 28th January 2016. A further update on the licensing process is expected to be issued within two days of this meeting.”
