Change of management at Donegal’s Highland Radio

Fionnuala Rabbitt is the new Managing Director at the station yesterday following the announcement that Shaun Doherty has stepped down from the role to focus primarily on developing his own chat show.

Fionnuala Rabbitt, 43, brings 12 years experience of working in local radio to the position of Managing Director. She has served as a director of Highland Radio since 2008 and holds a degree in Public & Social Policy as well as a Post Graduate Diploma in Management.

Formerly the station’s Commercial Director and Board Member, Ms Rabbitt paid tribute to Mr Doherty, who became Managing Director in June 2013 and successfully navigated the station through renewal of its commercial license in June of last year.

She said: “While we are sorry that Shaun has decided to step down as Managing Director, we are delighted that Highland Radio will continue to gain from his expertise and immense talent” says Fionnuala Rabbitt. “I am really looking forward to building on Shaun’s great work over the past 18 months and working alongside him and the team to make this station even bigger and better in 2015 and beyond.”

As well as presenting the Shaun Doherty Show, he will act as a Programme Consultant for Highland Radio and, the station says, he will continue to be a valued member of the station’s board of directors.

According to Shaun Doherty, “my commitment to Highland Radio is as strong as ever. I welcome this opportunity to focus my energy and passion on The Shaun Doherty Show and our programming. For the past six years, Fionnuala and myself have enjoyed a strong working relationship and I wish her every success in her new role.”
