Cork’s 96FM receives a Civic Reception

The Lord Mayor of Cork has hosted a Civic Reception for the management and staff of Cork’s 96FM.

It was held in the Lord Mayor’s Chambers at City Hall in Cork and was to recognise the work of the annual “Cork’s 96FM Giving for Living Radiothon”.

Lord Mayor, Catherine Clancy told the gathering that she had seen the station staff at work first hand when she visited Cork University Hospital during this year’s Radiothon which was held at the end of May.

She paid tribute to the radio station which has raised in excess of €2.8m for cancer services in Cork across the six years that Radiothon has run so far.

Responding, the Chief Executive of Cork’s 96FM and C103, Kieran McGeary, thanked the Lord Mayor for hosting the event and acknowledging the huge volume of work put in by station staff to organising and running the annual Radiothon. Much of this, he said, was over and above people’s normal duties.

It was also revealed at the Reception that the total raised by the 2013 Radiothon has now grown to €517,000.
