Classic Hits 4fm is to broadcast a special documentary titled ‘Up Close With George Michael’ looking behind the scenes at his orchestral tour Symphonica.
The station has been given the exclusive rights to broadcast the documentary in the Irish market by Universal Music. All week presenters will be paying tribute to George Michael with listeners voting for their favorite songs from George to win exclusive merchandise. The weekend then culminates with the airing of the “up close and personal” interview this Sunday evening from 7 to 8pm.
Andy Matthews, Programme Director at Classic Hits 4fm told RadioToday: “This is real coup for Classic Hits 4FM – George Michael is one of the world’s most iconic music stars and one of our core artists, we are proud and excited to bring this exclusive content to our listeners.”
In the show, George tells the story of the tour and the making of the album, also entitled ‘Symphonica’, which is released this month. George talks openly about his prison experience, his drug rehabilitation and how he rewarded himself by going on tour in 2011/2012. The special also includes interviews with his song-writing partner and oldest friend David Austin plus Dawn French, Shirlie Kemp, James Corden and producer Phil Ramone. The Symphonica album was Ramone’s last project before his death in March 2013, and this documentary contains one of his final interviews.
The documentary is produced by Sue Clark Productions and presented by former Ready Steady Go host Vicki Wickham.
