Gay Byrne, who was quoted as not wanting to return to lyric fm earlier this year, will be back on-air this October.
RTÉ has confirmed “Sunday with Gay Byrne” will be on-air in the 2-4pm slot with “the very best in traditional jazz, Big Band and swing”.
The station says there’ll be the usual chat from Gay as he “weaves his way through some of his often humorous weekly happenings, observations, musings and musical anecdotes”. The former Late Late show host has also just celebrated his 80th birthday
In March this year he told the independent he has no plans to continue work with RTÉ, saying: “I don’t know what I am going to do, but I don’t think I will do any more contracts with RTE.”
But he also went on to say: “I don’t know how I would feel with no outlet for my views. Retirement would not suit me”.
RTÉ is now looking for a sponsor for show show, after the deal with National Book Tokens ended.
