Zenith Classic Rock takes weekends to air

Online station Zenith Classic Rock is using a 30 day licence to broadcast on FM, DAB and AM for 15 weekends during the first quarter of 2013.

zenithrockThe transmissions cover the south-east of Ireland and the programmes are entirely music, with the content classic rock and album tracks, designed for an adult audience.

It is the only radio station in Ireland and the UK to broadcast in AM Stereo too.

Station Manager Andy Linton told RadioToday.ie: “Given an AM Stereo compatible radio, the quality is much better than normal AM. This is because the stereo aspect requires the transmission system to be better engineered than mono, and the receiver manufacturers to take more care.

“AM Stereo sounds amazing! On our website there’s a link to a webstream which relays the AM Stereo, which will be available each weekend.

“We aim to show that there is a place in the radio market for a specialist station such as this, with none of the dilution of news, chat shows etc that other stations have.”

Presenters on the seven year old station include Martin Kilbridge, Jimmy Leavy, Paul Dower and Bob Lawrence and the station can be heard on 103.8FM, DAB and Stereo AM 1584 from studios in Waterford.

Andy continued: “Our ultimate aim is to secure an FM licence, but in the shorter term we’re trying to raise money to get a content provision licence so Zenith can be carried on DAB in the South East and Dublin on a continuous basis.”
