A new weekend current affairs programme, An tSeachtain le Máirín Ní Ghadhra, will feature as part of RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta’s autumn schedule, with the first programme this weekend.
The Saturday 10am show will be presented by Máirín Ní Ghadhra, who has been in the RnaG newsroom for 20 years. She has presented all the main current affairs programme on the station, as well as regularly chairing their election and budget programmes.
Máirín will be joined by guests each week on the show to debate and analyse the main news stories, from politics, to economics, to Gaeltacht and Irish-language developments, and more.
Speaking of the show, Máirín said: “There has been demand for a weekend current affairs show on Raidió na Gaeltachta for some time, and I’m very pleased to be offered the opportunity to work on the new programme. It will be a fresh challenge for me, after years of working on daily programmes, and I hope to be able to offer a new perspective on the week’s news stories. We have a big year ahead, with the budget, elections and the 1916 commemorations, and I hope that An tSeachtain le Máirín Ní Ghadhra will be to the forefront in Raidió na Gaeltachta’s coverage of these stories.”
Máirín was awarded the prize for Radio Broadcaster of the Year at the Oireachtas Media Awards, Gradaim Chumarsáide an Oireachtais, in May.
