Raidió Rí-Rá is celebrating its 10th birthday by broadcasting on FM for 10 days in Dublin, Cork, Galway & Limerick.
Throughout the 10 day celebration, there will be live music, and guest presenters in studio, including TG4’s Micheál Ó Ciaraidh and Fair City’s Daithí Mac Suibhne.
The station will be giving away lots of prizes, and a big emphasis will be placed on spreading information about Bliain na Gaeilge 2018 and Seachtain na Gaeilge events, with hourly bulletins between 08:00 and 20:00.
Dúirt Niamh Ní Chróinín, Bainisteoir Raidió Rí-Rá: “We’re really excited to be broadcasting on FM and to be able to have a big celebration of 10 years of the station. Raidió Rí-Rá has achieved a lot since it first aired in 2008, between giving experience and training to young upcoming presenters, doing radio workshops in schools, producing top quality music programming, and filling a huge keep in Irish radio. There is no other full-time Irish language chart-music station for young people on FM in Ireland and we’re delighted to provide that service on FM for 10 days.”
Dúirt Julian de Spáinn, Rúnaí Raidió Rí-Rá: “We are 10 years on air, we have developed the station to the point that we are ready to take the next step. We aim to have Raidió Rí-Rá broadcasting on FM full-time right around the country. We’re working hard on this. We are delighted to be on FM to give a taste of our service to a wider audience.”
The majority of Raidió Rí-Rá’s presenters are third level students. Raidió Rí-Rá does radio workshops with primary and secondary schools around the country, giving young people the chance to experience radio. Every year, in partnership with Conradh na Gaeilge and RTÉ 2fm, Raidió Rí-Rá releases a CEOL CD with Irish language translations of popular songs.
Raidió Rí-Rá will broadcast on FM 87.7 in Galway, FM 106.7 in Cork, FM 105.2 in Dublin & FM 105.5 in Limerick until 12 March.
