Sean O’Rourke in Beggars Belief special

Today with Sean O’Rourke will run a special report from the RTÉ Investigations Unit this morning under the name of ‘Beggars Belief’.

Given the recent controversies concerning how charities spend public donations, the RTÉ Investigations Unit examines how vulnerable addicts are working up to 18 hours a day, for no pay, simply to raise money for a charity organisation.

Radio 1 says: “There are an estimated 20,000 heroin addicts in Ireland. However, for those looking for help there is just one professionally supervised detox bed for every 400 addicts in Dublin. This shortage has led addicts to engage with private and unregulated organisations.”

The special report will air from 10am with Sean O’Rourke at RTÉ Radio 1.
