RTÉ has taken the lead in the New York Festivals 2014 International Radio Program Awards, getting the most nominations for The World’s Best Radio Programmes.
The broadcaster has 23 nominations in a range of categories, whilst independent stations have eight between them. They include two for Newstalk and two for Today FM. Clare FM, Ocean FM, FM104 and Classic Hits 4FM have one each.
Lorelei Harris, Editor of RTÉ Radio, Arts, Drama and Factual said: “RTÉ Radio is honoured to have received so many nominations in categories across the board at the NYC Festivals. It points, once again, to the commitment of our producers and the high standard of quality in radio broadcasting to which we aspire to at all times.”
Athena Media, the Dublin-based production company led by Helen Shaw gets four nominations for programmes aired on Radio 1 and Newstalk.
Programmes and presenters gaining finalist status include Morning Focus with John Cooke on Clare FM, FM104’s Strawberry Alarm Clock, Niall Boylan, Sean Moncrieff and Today FM Sessions.

New York Festivals enlists jurists from all over the world to become The GrandJury members. These men and women include some of the most recognisable voices and captivating programming producers in the industry. Entries are judged on production values, organisation, presentation of information, creativity, and use of the medium.
The 2014 competition will honor the World’s Best Radio Programs on Monday, June 23rd at the annual awards gala taking place at Manhattan Penthouse in New York City.
