The IBI has finalised a rights deal for 20 local radio stations to broadcast live GAA match commentary and updates on GAA events to their listeners.
The Independent Broadcasters of Ireland’s access and media rights form part of the GAA’s radio and television broadcast rights and covers the period 2014-2017.
Joao Soares, General Manager of Shannonside/Northern Sound said: “Coverage of local sport is an essential part of the public service content that local radio stations provide to our audience. We are delighted to be able to bring all the excitement and the thrills of live GAA matches to our listeners every weekend. Local radio has become an integral part of our Irish identity in every county in the country and this strong focus on local communities is also central to the work of the GAA.”
Liam Ó Néill, Uachtarán Cumann Luthchleas Gael said: “The GAA is delighted to extend its very successful relationship with the IBI for a further 3 years, ensuring the continuation of extensive local coverage of our games around the country until 2017. GAA is at the heart of every community and this agreement provides a fantastic promotional vehicle that reaches out to our membership on a daily basis.”
