RTÉ 2fm is joining forces once again with Oxfam Ireland to launch the third annual 2fm’s Play the Picnic with Oxfam.
It’s a nationwide competition that will see 10 of Ireland’s best up-and-coming acts win a coveted live set at the Electric Picnic.
Today, Tuesday 7th June at 1pm, The Tracy Clifford Show launched 2fm’s Play the Picnic with Oxfam during a live broadcast from the Oxfam shop on Parliament Street, Dublin 2 with live music from last year’s overall winner, Heroes in Hiding as well as 2014 finalists, Donegal duo Little Hours.
The act from the final ten with the highest number of votes overall will play at one of Electric Picnic’s larger stages, The Cosby Stage, granting them exposure to Picknickers. They will also win a masterclass with Festival Republic MD Melvin Benn on how to get festival bookings for your band; a masterclass with 2fm on how to go about approaching radio stations and obtaining airplay; a studio session with some of Ireland’s top sound engineers at 2fm’s state-of-the-art studios; and have their song broadcast to the nation on 2fm.
Paul Russell, Programme Director at 2fm, says: “Every year we team up with Oxfam for Play the Picnic we’re blown away by the quality of the entries. It’s reassuring to know that bubbling under the current crop of big names there’s a constant supply of developing unsigned acts biting at their heels.”
