WLR passed its target of raising €50,000 this Christmas with a grand total of over €80,000 going to local people in need.
One of the main fundraisers for the appeal was the Fairview Auction with Kieran O’Connor, Sean Organ and Waterford hurling legend Declan Prendergast which raised over €8,000 in just 90 minutes.
WLR’s Red to Work Day raised over €15,000 with almost 150 companies taking part in what is now a flagship event for the Appeal and the Dungarvan Community Concert which smashed previous attendance and monies raised for the St. Vincent de Paul. The concert aired on WLR on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
All monies raised by WLR listeners in the 2017 Christmas Appeal will go to assist the needy in Mid-Waterford, Dungarvan and West Waterford by supporting the services of the St. Vincent De Paul in those areas.
Michael Byrne WLR’s Programme Director, told RadioToday: “This is the second year of the revamped appeal and to smash the target by 30,000 which is an unbelievable achievement. The team worked so hard and we can’t wait for next year.” Michael went on to say “ The St. Vincent de Paul do great work in Waterford and we’re delighted to support them once again.
“WLR would like to thank all the businesses and loyal listeners for the continued support for the WLR ‘Be a little star’ Christmas Appeal for the St. Vincent de Paul.”
