Radio people say goodbye to Martin Thomas

Many radio people from around the industry said their goodbyes to music promoter Martin Thomas at a special service today.

Martin, the husband of Q102 Drive@5 presenter Venetia Quick, and well known to many radio people, died on February 11th after a short battle with cancer.

Songs at the service included a version of the Charles Aznavour song “She”, Especially for You by Kylie & Jason, and the crowd was encouraged to sing at the end to U2’s “One” led by Paul Harrington.

As the coffin was led out the Vicar played AC/DC You Shook Me All Night Long.

Martin and Venetia have three children and ran a food emporium in Ringsend village in Dublin together.

Scott Williams, Group Content Director Wireless Group, said: “My thoughts are with the family at this difficult time.”

Enda Caldwell was at the service held in St Matthews COI, Irishtown, and told RadioToday: “Her wonderful tribute to her larger than life husband today at his funeral was a mark of Venetia’s strength to see her share anecdotes from herself, their dear close friends and family from far and near who brought to life through their stories what a wonderful guy Murt was during his great lifetime.”
