Newstalk presenter Dil Wickremasinghe has been given an inaugural Frederick Douglass Award by the Lord Mayor of Dublin.
The award recognises outstanding contribution to civic life in the city by an immigrant, part of an annual ceremony since 1989, which has honoured individuals and groups who have made a special contribution to Dublin.
Dil hosts the Global Village show on Newstalk every Saturday, in which she tackles all social justice issues. She previously presented a programme on community radio before being noticed by Newstalk.
Dil has been living in Ireland 14 years and is now an Irish citizen. She was born in Rome to Sri Lankan parents and moved there at 12.
