Radio Kerry Training & the National Digital Skills Centre have launched a new 50 week radio production skills course.
The Diploma in Radio Production, certified by City and Guilds, builds on the radio course run at Radio Kerry Training since 2006. Revisions include a stronger focus on social media, sound editing and audio production. Trainees have the opportunity and the time to specialise in their chosen area of radio and will receive assistance in organising an eight week industry placement which forms part of the training. The course is free and in some cases trainees will receive a training allowance.
Course Tutor John Herlihy believes this training course has the right focus “Our goal is to get people into the industry. It’s perfect for those already on the fringes of a radio station who wish to build practical skills and experience and where better to spend a year in training but in beautiful County Kerry”
For the first time ever, all three Kerry ETB media production courses (Radio, TV & Digital Media) will be located on the newly built National Digital Skills Centre in Tralee. Delivery of the radio course will be split between NDSC and Radio Kerry Training locations.
The station says the course is the only full time radio broadcast training course in Ireland delivered in partnership with a licenced radio station and the only course to win 4 PPI National Radio awards. Former trainees work at the BBC, RTE, Communicorp, UTV Radio, Independent News & Media, Thomas Crosbie Holdings, AA Roadwatch, the Independent Local Radio sector and a host of other online and media production companies. Past radio graduates of the course have been awarded with over 20 PPI radio awards to date.
The course starts on September 8th – see radiokerry.ie/training/ for more details.
