Radio 1 looks at the history of the 1916 Rising

RTÉ Radio 1’s Documentary on One unit is to air a series of four documentaries that tell some of the lesser-known stories of the 1916 Rising.

The first in the Documentary on One: 1916 Series is ‘Battle at the Bridge’, which challenges the conventional narrative of The Battle of Mount Street Bridge as a heroic stand by a handful of brave young volunteers.

The first airing was last Saturday at 2pm, with the next installment, Roger Casement’s ‘Apocalypse Now’ – Africa & 1916 being broadcast this Friday at 1.45pm.

The documentaries continue on Saturday March 26th at 2pm with The All-Ireland Behind Barbed Wire, finishing on Sat April 2nd @ 2pm with Documentary on One: An Easter Re-Rising
