Joe Duffy repeats Grafton Street special

Once again Radio 1 will be offering a number of special festive programmes, including the annual Joe Duffy live from Dublin’s Grafton Street.

Starting on Saturday 21st December, it’s a special festive Documentary on One as the station looks at memories and moments of Christmas. The station is also featuring “Celtic Women: Home for Christmas: Live from Dublin.” at 2:25pm.

Sunday with Miriam on 22nd December is a Jimmy MacCarthy Christmas Special Recorded in the Thomas Moore Theatre at his home in Jenkinstown House Kilkenny.

On Monday 23rd, Arts Tonight pays tribute t English composer John Taverner, who died last month. Presenter Vincent Woods and guests discuss his work and play some of his music.

Then on Christmas Eve it’s a Liveline Christmas Special as Joe invites listeners along for his traditional live Christmas Eve programme from Grafton Street, Dublin. The station says there will be plenty of seasonal music, surprise guests and festive tunes plus the Hallelujah Gospel Choir, singer/songwriter Eoin Glackin, and Dublin band the Delerentos.

Also on Tuesday, A Christmas Card From Paris features early afternoon with Colm, and there’s also a Christmas Story by children from St. Nicholas’s NS in the Claddagh Galway, St. Malachy’s BNS, Dundalk and St Patrick’s Primary School, Pennyburn, Derry.

Later on, Maxi drives listeners home and tracks Santa followed by Jack Frost when performer Jack Lukeman and friends hold an intimate Christmas Eve gathering celebrating the music and songs of Christmas from the eclectic to the classic. Jack’s guests for this fireside gathering include Julie Feeney, Camille O’Sullivan and Aoife Scott. Jack Frost! is an Athena Media production for RTÉ Radio 1.

And finally, the New Year’s Eve Countdown Concert Special airs with John Creedon from 10pm, live from the Countdown Concert in Dublin’s College Green. John and his guests will see 2013 out to the sounds of Madness, The Strypes, MKS (the original Sugababes), Ryan Sheridan and Seo Linn.
