Nova Noise identified after eight weeks

A listener from Blackrock successfully guessed ‘The Nova Noise’ on Tuesday morning – after it had been running on Nova for eight weeks.

John Keane won €3,050 after correctly guessing that the sound was that of ‘a pen being dropped into a desk tidy’.

John made the winning guess at 7am, during the station’s ‘Morning Glory’ breakfast show, presented by Joan Lea and Marty Miller. The prize had increased by €50 for every day the noise wasn’t correctly guessed, with listeners having four daily chances to win the jackpot.

John confessed to having spent the Bank Holiday Weekend trying to guess the ‘Nova Noise’ and experimenting with various household items in an effort to recreate the sound.

Radio Nova’s CEO & Programme Director Kevin Branigan said, ominously, “The Nova Noise will return and, next time, it will be as simple and confounding as ever”.

Nova have posted a video of the Nova Noise, as recorded during its creation on its Facebook page – www.facebook.com/radionova100
