Billy McCarthy steps down as WLR FM PD

WLR FM’s Operations Manager Michael Byrne has been appointed as Programme Director at the radio station, replacing Billy McCarthy who is stepping down from the role after 25 years in charge.

Billy has been with the station since it launched and also currently hosts the daily Déise AM programme, which he’ll continue to present.

michaelMichael has worked with WLR FM for the past 13 years, starting his career in 2001 in commercial production and imaging. In 2003 he was appointed Head of Music then went on to become Assistant PD in 2005. Michael took up the position of Operations Manager in 2010 where he has overseen WLR FM’s new imaging, on-line, programming, music and digital offering.

Michael is currently an IBI representative on the PPI Radio Awards committee and is also a founding committee member of the Waterford Viking Marathon. He is a former board member of Learning Waves.

Michael will take up his new position on June 30th 2014.
