Today FM’s morning presenter Ray D’Arcy this week took to the roads again for the 4th annual Join SPAR and Ray for 5K in association with Athletics Ireland.
Tomorrow will see the event culminate in a grand finale run in Dublin’s Phoenix Park at lunchtime with over 2,000 runners and walkers taking part.
Since Monday, over 4,000 people in Letterkenny, Athlone, Limerick and Cork joined Ray on the daily 5K runs– with local celebrities and international stars showing their support, including Ireland’s World Indoor Hurdles Champion Derval O’Rourke, Bressie, Pat Shortt, Former Eurovision star Joe McCaul and Mrs Brown’s Boys star Danny O’Carroll.
Ireland’s former Olympian Sonia O’Sullivan and backwards runner Garret Doherty will be among those showing their support in the park tomorrow. Over 20,000 people have taken up the 5K challenge since the initiative began 4 years ago. The challenge aims to inspire non-runners and to introduce them to the world of running.
There are limited places left for tomorrow’s run, which starts at 1pm from Furze Road in Phoenix Park. Registration takes places from 12 noon and walk-ups on the day are accepted.
