2FM’s Fanning brings Fab 50 back for 2014

The 2014 edition of Fanning’s Fab 50 – the annual countdown of the fifty best songs of all time, as voted for by the listeners of RTÉ 2fm – concludes tonight.

Each year since 1980, Dave Fanning has held an annual music chart show, decided by a poll of the general public and – since the advent of internet voting – online selections where voters pick their own favourite three pieces of music.

U2 have topped the poll on a regular basis and the countdown has becomes somewhat of an institution within Irish broadcasting circles.

In 2005, Fanning released an Irish-only triple album, “Fanning’s Fab 50 Vol 1”, which went platinum – as did it’s follow up “Fanning’s Fab 50 Vol 2”, released for the Christmas market in 2006. A 3rd volume was released the following year.

This year’s two-part show, which sees Fanning continue the 2FM tradition of counting down the greatest songs of all time, kicked off last night and concludes tonight on the national station between 10pm and 1am.
